Being Here For Now

The Wisdom Of Mindfulness.
Dr Farmer believes that, for much of our waking lives we are 'asleep', in the sense that we are hardly aware of the present moment at any time.

When we choose to be here for the Now, to be mindful, we discover a richness of life both in our outer and inner worlds which we have not been aware of since we were little children. It is a moment-to-moment choice to let go of thinking about the past or the future, and instead to focus our attention on the present.

The most important mindfulness practice is that of following the breath. We can have the long-term goal of being aware of our breathing all of the time. We can also practise attending to whatever it is we are doing at any moment, whether it be walking, washing up or preparing food. In this way we rediscover what it is to feel truly alive, full of inner joy and contentment.

Extracts from the CD

"Moments of mindfulness, of being right here for now, are moments of peace and quietude, even when we are engaged in doing something."

"To live in the Now – to be mindful – is to become the Witness, the impartial observer, of what we are thinking, feeling , sensing and doing..."

"Being mindful is not about the past or future; it is all to do with the present, the moment-to-moment present, right now..."

"Being mindful, we are rediscovering our true Self, the impartial Witness who is ever-content, unaffected by the ups and downs of life...."

"Breathe and you dwell in the Here and Now. Breathe and all you touch is new and real...."

"We can walk mindfully through life, noticing this and being aware of that, without being overwhelmed or caught up in reacting to this or that. We can be free to chart our own course without being blown about by the winds of the inner and outer worlds in which we live...."

"May we be ever mindful of who we really are, the changeless one who observes it all change...."
